A not so Happy Easter for Ryan

After spending, a sleepness night in a very hot Anchorage hotel room on Friday night and shopping all day Saturday, Ryan woke up at 3:00 AM on Easter with a bad pain in his side. He tried to get himself comfortable and back to sleep, but never could. By 7:00 he was in pretty bad pain and I figured that he was having troubles with his appendix. I called and spoke to our friend who is an EMT/firefighter (thanks Matt) and he told me to test his side with the reflex test. If it hurts really bad when I let go with my hand then it is probably his appendix and I should take him in. About 7:30 I asked Ryan what he thought we should do and he said that he should go to the hospital, I knew he was in bad pain. I called his mom and she came over and took care of the girls. I got him to the hospital about 8:45. Ryan kept trying to convince everyone that his pain wasn't that bad and he should go home. The DR ordered some blood work and called in the surgeon, who happened to be in the hospital because he had an earlier surgery. He came done and poked around Ryan's belly and said there was no way he was going home. They had him in surgery by 12:00 and into a room by 2:00 PM. His appendix was swollen and very infected, on it's way to rupturing, but had not burst yet. He had to spend the night in order to receive the three strong doses of antibiotics that they wanted him to have. He was Ryan, just as funny coming out from under the anesthetic as he is then he is not on anything. He teased and joked with all the nurses. He was a good patient, given the circumstances. When I was registering him, they had no record of him in the computer. I don't think he has been to the hospital as a patient since he was born in it. This was his very first surgery. We are very blessed for that! I had him home by noon on Monday. He is doing well. He is sore when it come to moving. He is supposed to be resting, but is bored out of his mind. The surgeon said he should really be off work for 2 weeks, but he might get to go back next week and run the front. We will see how he is feeling. It was a very long day, but I am thankful that we were able to catch it in time and nothing worse happened.

Dying eggs with the girls on Thursday.

The girls were up at 6:00 AM. I got up watched them see what the Easter bunny brought and hunt eggs.

The girls all dressed up for church. Thanks to Gramma and Aunt Jennifer, they looked like pretty princesses.

So you didn't speed past us to make it to the hospital? Sorry to hear about Ryan. He and Eliza should start a club. On our way home from Anchorage, we kept teasing that our radar detector was getting away.

He is SOO LUCKY! I nearly died from my appendicitis. It can be a really nasty thing. Just make sure he gets the rests he should have and not push it. If he tries to do to much too soon, he can really have a set back!
Tell I said to BE GOOD!!!!
Love you all and I am SOO SORRY about the $ that got stolen. Whoever did it needs to be...well you decide!
