We went back to Waimea for a second day and spent time on the beach watching the huge waves. They were 20-30 footers. The beach was closed to swimming for the white people as Ryan put it. It was fun to watch. The “locals”were out boogie boarding and surfing. The lifeguard was out on a jet ski picking up surf boards that got away from people. They would haul them to the beach and then get on the PA and say “John your board is on the beach.” Crazy how they knew them by name.
This is one of my favorite pictures of the trip. It captures the moment so well. Sweet innocent, Kristen was standing next to me taking a picture and says “Luke, take off your sweater, I can’t see you” Ryan’s expressions says it all. We laughed and joked about it for the rest of the trip!
