Bon Voyage ( I Don’t know how to say it in Korean)

Gramma and Grampa Ellis left Tues night to head to Utah for training for their 18 month LDS mission to Korea. They report to the MTC (Missionary Training Center) on Monday 11/7 and then head to Korea on the 21st.

Larry served there as an Elder when he was 19-21 some 38 years ago. He has always wanted to go back and now he gets to. He says it is like going home. We are excited for them and all that they get to do to serve the Lord and the people of Korea.

While we were saying our good byes the power went out. We helped get the generator running at their house and then went home to get ours going. We had crazy strong winds up to 80 miles per hour. Trees were uprooted and blown into the power lines. There were 10 trees in the power lines between our house and the highway which is only 3 miles. The lines were actually laying on the ground. Several trees caught on fire. The local fire department counts 35 call outs that night in 6 hours or so. School was canceled. We finally got our power restored 17 hours later…others around here still don’t have theirs yet. It is ALWAYS an adventure here in Alaska!

I am thankful for the council from our church leaders to be prepared for emergency situations. It was wonderful to be able to plug our generator in and not worry about the kids being too cold or how I was going to cook. I am also thankful for the HEA w (Homer Electric Association) for the endless hours they have put in to restore everyone’s power.

I wasn’t able to get ones of the trees in the lines because they had them out before it was light enough to take a picture.
